One of the best parts about starting the Tri-Cities Sport and Social Club is that I have the opportunity to meet and work with some of the finest talent in the area. It could be working with fantastic chef, hosting events at a beautiful winery and event venue, or in the case of this year’s Spring Barrel Tasting, an invitation to attend a club member event at one of my favorite Red Mountain wineries, Fidelitas.
Open House at Sara Nelson Design

One of the fantastic things about Social Media is the ability to connect with like-minded people that otherwise might never have crossed your path. Thanks to the magic of Twitter, and the hospitality of Sara Nelson and her husband Kevin Cole of Sara Nelson Design in downtown Kennewick, I had the opportunity to meet some fabulous people in person. Kevin and Sara have twice hosted an open house for friends both personal and virtual with a great turnout. Sara and Nikki (another Twitter friend) did a beautiful job decorating the space. I couldn’t help taking a few pictures.

A quick visit to the Terra Blanca and Fidelitas wineries of Red Mountain is ALWAYS worth it
What amazing views!
Maryhill and Columbia Crest Wineries
On the way home from the Oregon Brew Festival this year, we stopped in at the Maryhill and Columbia Crest Wineries. It was the first I had seen the new (to me) amphitheater at Maryhill, and I hadn’t been to Columbia Crest in, well, way too long. Both places are absolutely beautiful.

As much as I love wine, my guy friends LOVE beer. A group of us went to Portland this year for the Oregon Brew Festival and had a fantastic time!
Combine Derby – Lind, WA
I went to college at Washington State University (GO COUGS!). I passed the town of Lind, WA each time I made the trip from WSU (in Pullman) to my hometown of Kennewick. One of the landmarks on the trip was a sign outside of Lind that said “Lind, WA: Home of the Combine Derby!”. I always wanted to go and check it out.
Fast forward to May 2009: I was sitting with a group of new friends in a Seattle restaurant sipping margaritas and chatting about the crazy things that happen in college. For some reason, that Combine Derby sign came up in conversation. My friend Suz looked at me and said, “I grew up in Lind. My parents have a farm there. Let’s do a girls trip to the Combine Derby this year!” Oh, I was in.
Phoenix Botanical Gardens – Dale Chihuly Installation
My parents travel to Scottsdale, AZ every winter after the Christmas Holiday, and I usually make a trip down to see them at least once. Always looking for new things to do, my parents suggested visiting the Phoenix Botanical Gardens, and it turns out that there was a Dale Chihuly installation there at the time. I love glass artwork, and the different forms in this installation were a fantastic contrast to the natural beauty of the desert.
